Tip Calculator

Work out how much tip to leave, the total bill, and the amount each person owes when splitting a check.

Tip percentage
Per person
₹550
Tip amount
₹200
Total bill (with tip)
₹2,200

How it works

The tip is a percentage of the bill — Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100 — added to the bill to get the total. When splitting between multiple people, the total (bill plus tip) is divided evenly by the number of people, giving an equal amount for everyone rather than each person tipping separately.

Example

A ₹2,000 bill with a 10% tip adds ₹200, for a ₹2,200 total; split evenly across 4 people, everyone pays ₹550.

Frequently asked questions

What tip percentage is typical?

In India, restaurants often suggest 5–10%; internationally 15–20% is common for table service. The preset buttons cover the usual range, and you can type any custom percentage.

Does everyone pay the same amount regardless of what they ordered?

Yes, this calculator splits the total evenly. For itemized splitting where each person pays for exactly what they ordered, you would need to divide the bill manually per item first.

Is a service charge the same as a tip?

No — many restaurants already add a mandatory service charge to the bill; check your receipt before adding an additional tip on top.

Can I split between just one person?

Yes — entering 1 person simply shows the full bill-plus-tip total as the "per person" amount.
