How it works
Taxable income = gross income minus the ₹75,000 standard deduction (salaried). Tax is computed slab by slab on the new-regime rates, then the Section 87A rebate zeroes the tax when taxable income is within the rebate limit, and 4% health & education cess is added on any remaining tax. The FY the slabs belong to is shown above the calculator.
Example
A salaried person earning ₹20,00,000 has ₹19,25,000 taxable after standard deduction. Slab-wise tax is ₹1,85,000, plus ₹7,400 cess — ₹1,92,400 total, an effective rate under 10%.
Frequently asked questions
Old regime or new regime?
This tool computes the new (default) regime. The old regime with HRA/80C deductions can win for people with large deductions — compare both before choosing.
What is the 87A rebate?
If your taxable income is within the rebate limit, the rebate cancels your entire tax — effectively zero tax up to that income.
Is surcharge included?
No — surcharge applies above ₹50,00,000 and is not modelled here. Cess (4%) is included.
Are these slabs current?
The FY label above the calculator states exactly which year's slabs are loaded; slabs are updated after each Union Budget.
What is marginal relief?
If your taxable income is just above ₹12,00,000, Section 87A marginal relief caps your tax at the amount by which your income exceeds ₹12,00,000 — so earning slightly more never leaves you worse off after tax. This calculator applies it automatically.
