Length Converter
Convert length between millimetres, centimetres, metres, kilometres, inches, feet, yards and miles.
How it works
Every unit is defined by how many metres it equals — the metre is the base unit. Converting from one unit to another multiplies your value by the first unit's metre equivalent, then divides by the second unit's metre equivalent, so any pair of the eight supported units (millimetre, centimetre, metre, kilometre, inch, foot, yard, mile) converts through the same one-line formula.
Example
One metre is about 3.28084 feet, and 5 kilometres is roughly 3.10686 miles — useful for reading a foreign recipe, a running route, or furniture dimensions listed in a unit you do not think in.
Frequently asked questions
Is the inch-to-centimetre conversion exact?
Yes — 1 inch has been defined as exactly 2.54 cm internationally since 1959, so conversions through inches, feet, yards and miles are exact, not approximations.
Which unit is everything converted through?
Internally every unit is expressed as a multiple of the metre; converting between two non-metric units still passes through metres, but the result is identical to a direct formula.
Can I convert in both directions?
Yes — pick any unit as the "from" side and any other as "to", or use the swap button to instantly flip the two.
Does it round the result?
The display rounds to a sensible number of decimal places; the underlying calculation itself uses the exact conversion factors.
